Inspired by the Greek meaning of Phaidon, which translates to “light-giving”, the workplace concept is centred on clarity, energy, and momentum. The Brief
Delivering a project of this magnitude presented several distinct design and logistical challenges. ODCreate wanted to celebrate the building’s raw architectural character by exposing services and retaining monolithic concrete columns. However, they needed to balance this industrial backbone with a warm, natural material palette to introduce depth and tactility.
Specific challenges for the joinery package included:
- Complex Geometry: The building features a curved facade, which required geometry-led planning and highly precise bespoke joinery to fit the unique space perfectly.
- Brand Integration: Phaidon’s bold pink and purple brand accents needed to be integrated creatively without overwhelming the sophisticated office environment.
- Multifunctional Spaces: The client required a large, open townhall adjacent to the main teapoint that could quickly transform from an event space into an informal workspace.
- Sustainability: The project demanded strict adherence to ESG principles, including a zero-waste-to-landfill commitment and the use of sustainable, durable materials.
To achieve all this, ODCreate needed a partner who deeply understood the art of the possible and could deliver unique designs on a strict 32-week timeline.
The Solution
WSG Joinery stepped in to provide a comprehensive, end user bespoke joinery package. We collaborated closely with the ODCreate design team to ensure our unique solutions adapted perfectly to their architectural vision.
By combining precision manufacturing with on site installation support, we delivered several key components:
- Bespoke Teapoints: We crafted minimalist cabinetry for multiple teapoints across the floorplate. These areas feature warm finishes that contrast beautifully with the exposed ceiling services and curved plaster walls.
- Custom Reception Desk: We designed and installed a contemporary, highly functional reception desk. This piece incorporates subtle Phaidon branding and feature lighting to create a welcoming first impression.
- Feature Brand Logo: To anchor the reception area, we manufactured a huge, sculptural Phaidon letter installation. This monolithic piece cleverly doubles as seating and creates an immediate visual impact upon entering the space.
Furthermore, we ensured all our materials met the project’s rigorous durability and sustainability standards. Our collaborative approach meant we easily integrated our installation schedule with other specialist contractors, ensuring seamless project delivery.
